Ron Paul, Sarah Palin, Sweatervest, and other Random Thoughts
Now that we all survived the apocalypse we can move on and live in this post apocalyptic nightmare. I for one am glad we will not be running away from zombies, machines, or dying from fallout exposure. Hell, I am just glad I don’t have to run away from giant mutated ants and scorpions while listening to old time music on my pipboy. But, we all aren’t so lucky.
Jim Tressel, the one and only Sweatervested football coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes, is in his own personal apocalypse. The list of improprieties are too numerous to mention but most famously involve a cars for play scandal. There are allegations that he lined up cars for recruits, their families, and players in order for them to play in Columbus. This is a major NCAA violation and he damn well knew it.
This all started when players were caught selling off program awarded items for tattoos. This, of and by itself, is not a major violation. The players were suspended for five games this fall. But the major ding comes in the fact that the Vest knew about this and was informed by a booster via email. He chose to hide it and as a result, was to be in a 5 game suspension himself, this fall.
That would have been where it ended but the Vest has done this song and dance before. His previous coaching job was at Youngstown State University. He was accused of a cars for play deal, there, before he came to OSU.
There is enough info out there to form your own opinion on the facts of the case. Regardless, in the midst of a major forthcoming investigative article from Sport Illustrated, the Vest announced his resignation.
I always had a level of respect for the guy and what he accomplished. But you can forget about that, now. He did it the wrong way and, at the very least, turned his head while things went on. Now, get ready for the typical bullshit you will hear from a fan base when something like this happens. “It happens at every school, we just got caught.” There, of course, will be a myriad of other stereotypical comments from the Buckeye fan base without actually looking within their own program.
On to another matter. The Ron Paul revolution is picking up mainstream steam. What was a small, cult like following is turning into a major movement.
Paul has no hope to beat the establishment candidates in the primary. But his message is getting out there. The Libertarian take over of the Republican party is under way and it is only a matter of time. In order to be a viable party for the future, social idealism needs to be left behind in national GOP politics. Somewhere along the way, they lost the concept of small government on a local scale.
The biggest joke of the upcoming election is the seriousness of a Palin candidacy. She has taken over the tea party movement. These people are obvious fools if they anoint her their leader. These people came together in the name of smaller government and to get big government out of our lives. Palin doesn’t want that. She is a social conservative who would like nothing more than to exert that ideology on the nation through the White House.
It really wouldn’t be any different than what we have now. An ideologue forcing his policy and will on the people. If the GOP wants another generational shift, they will nominate Palin or one of their establishment candidates. If they truly wish to win, they will nominate a candidate that is more concerned with conservative economics, getting us out of our international messes, restoring the rights of the American people, giving power back to the state and local governments, and keeping their social values out of the White House.
Abortion, Hemp issues, gay marriage, collective bargaining, education, environmental policy, and health care policy should all be states issues not subject to the will of a large national government. We all see the bullshit going on in big government.
These people act like we owe them something for answering a fucking phone. They act like we should be grateful that there is a guy in an office building in DC whose only job is to walk around and change toner cartridges and make copies of documents for those that don’t look at email all day long.
Ron Paul or Herman Cain could be transitional characters within the GOP. That is exactly what they need. Mark these words, if the party nominates their establishment nominees in either Pawltney or Romney, I suspect many will leave the party including myself. If they nominate Palin, I will definitely abandon the party and join the Libertarians. I will never, under any circumstance, vote for a candidate that couldn’t even finish serving the people of Alaska before stepping down. What she or anyone else refuse to tell you is that she was found guilty of ethics violations as governor of Alaska. She created herself an old boy network, up there in Alaska. Yep…. a reformer with results, as she likes to call herself.
We already have a president who is a product of a corrupt political machine in Chicago. The last thing we need is another one that quits under pressure. What will she do when Hugo Chavez places Iranian or North Korean missiles in Venezuela? What if we get attacked by terrorists? Will she quit to work with Oprah on the newest O network program? Will she run to Foxnews for a job? Will she turn tail and quickly retire “due to health or family issues”?
